Who We Are

We are an inclusive group of people with a connection to the San Juan Islands who are interested in boating and our marine environment.  We welcome members with sailboats, powerboats and human-powered craft, even people who are between boats – owning a boat is not a requirement of membership.

The Clubhouse is a focus of the San Juan Island social scene and a great way for new or seasonal residents to make connections with active community members and find common interests while enjoying an unmatched view of Friday Harbor from our infinity deck.  Twice a week or more the Club is open to members and guests for dinner and drinks.  We host movie nights, costume parties and galas. We sponsor Opening Day each May – the San Juan Island “4th of July on the Water” – with the participation of dozens of community groups.

Club volunteers lead 8-10 cruises each year to destinations as near as the San Juan and Gulf islands and as far as the Broughton Archipelago. We sponsor fishing contests. We have sponsored the Shaw Island Classic sailboat race for nearly 50 years.

How to Join the SJIYC

You are sponsored into the club by two existing members.  You will find our members glad to invite you to join them at the Club and get to meet other members.  We encourage participation as a guest in several events to really get to know us.  If you don’t know any current members contact our membership chair, Vice Commodore Bill Robinson at vicecommodore@sjiyc.com, who can help make connections with existing members for you.

You can download a complete application package by clicking one of the links below which provide a comprehensive description of the process and the necessary application forms. It also describes some aspects of the Club and outlines the financial implications of membership.

In summary however, the steps are:

First, you will need to obtain sponsorship by two current members of the Club.

Then fill out the application form, which must be signed by both sponsors, and have your sponsors send letters of recommendation directly to the membership chairperson.
